Honor Carlos Sr.'s Memory: Support His Family

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Carlos. This fundraiser is for my mother to help her through this hard time in our lives. The handsome man in the photo is my father, Carlos Senior. My dad is a very kind, loving man, hardworking, and the rock of our family. If you were to ask anyone who knew him, they would tell you that my dad was the most positive, energetic, happy-souled individual. He would take his shirt off his back if someone needed it. I recall back when I was a child, during blizzard conditions, my dad would pile my brother and me in his big truck, and he would have us go door to door to check on neighbors and ask if they needed anything from grocery stores. We would make the purchases and deliver them accordingly. Of course, at the age of 8, I never understood why we did it. Well, as an adult, I now understand. He was just being his super kind and friendly self. My father never drank; he never smoked a day in his life. My mother was his everything; he was full of life and endless love for my mother.

10 years ago, I moved from Colorado to Chicago and kept in touch with Mom and Dad via telephone calls and the occasional holiday visit. All was well.

I remember the day I received a phone call from Mom, expecting to have a cheerful conversation as we always did, but this time it was different. The once happy-tuned voice I was used to had turned into a voice of worry and sadness.

She informed me that earlier that day, my father fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. He had a pain in his stomach and had fainted, hitting his head on the way down and knocking him unconscious. Later, after examination, we learned that he had a strange growth in his intestine close to the liver. He underwent surgery and had it removed. He was doing fine and recovered quickly, but just as things looked good, he returned to the hospital again from fainting, and doctors noticed that the growth had returned.

Cancer is a nasty disease. The doctor said there's no turning back from this. He gave us the devastating news no one should ever hear. He said the cancer had spread into his liver and had damaged it so severely that even if he received chemotherapy and treatment, it would only buy him time. The best we can do now is to enjoy the time he has left with us and share good moments with him. He said my father had 8 months to a year to live.

On September 8th, 2024, my father passed away from liver failure caused by cancer. With your help and support, all donations will go to my mother to aid her through this devastating loss and help her with monthly bills and to help aid her with an official gravestone for my father's memorial.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Sincerely,
Carlos Jr. Miss you, Dad
