Honoring Charles Suniga's Legacy of Music and Love

My name is Julia Weiss, and along with Audrey Breznikar and Jeannine Harwood, we have been proud members of the local (Portland/Vancouver) band, "Charles and The Angels" for over 11 years. Our dear friend and bandmate, Charles Suniga, unexpectedly passed away on July 11, 2024. Charles was not only our keyboard player; he was the heart and soul of our band, known for his talent, charisma, and unwavering passion for music.

Charles dedicated his life to spreading joy through his original piano compositions, particularly his acclaimed series, "Moments of Peace". For over 40 years, his music has touched countless lives, providing healing and solace to listeners worldwide. Charles's music has left an indelible mark on our community and beyond.

Charles was a beloved figure in Portland, Oregon, where he produced eight albums and received Grammy nominations for "Spirit Rising" and "Still in the Moment". His music, described as heartfelt, enriching, and captivating, resonates deeply with all who hear it. Charles's ability to play complex melodies with one hand while creating intricate string harmonies with the other, left many in awe of his musical prowess.

Beyond his musical achievements, Charles was known for his generosity and kindness. He actively participated in benefit concerts for local charities like the Portland Children's Hospital and consistently donated his music to support cancer patients. He has played in Senior Retirement Communities on a daily basis for over 30 years. The residents of the communities that he played to, passionately enjoyed Charles' humor and musical talent. His impact on our community cannot be overstated.

As the driving force and spirit for our band, Charles supported us tirelessly. Now, in the wake of his sudden passing, we are facing the daunting task of arranging his memorial and ensuring that his musical legacy lives on. With the outpouring of love and support, many have asked what they can do to help in honoring Charles and his legacy. We would like to personally make sure that his music is shared with Hospice, Hospitals, and Senior Communities. We are reaching out to you, our community, to ask for your support. Your contributions will help us honor Charles's memory and continue to share his beautiful music with the world.
