Doug Gorney, (1961 - 2024), was a true native San Franciscan, whose warmth and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met. From his earliest days at his kindergarten class to his transformative years at University High School and Wesleyan University, Doug was a beacon of kindness, creativity, and connection. His journey didn’t stop there—whether inspiring his TM students with his profound wisdom, sketching side by side with Sunset artists, or simply sharing a smile with strangers, he touched lives in ways that made the world feel smaller and more beautiful. To know Doug was to feel truly seen, heard, and loved, and his memory continues to shine as brightly as the city he called home.
Doug Gorney was a cherished artist whose creativity and passion deeply touched our community. His art not only beautified our surroundings but also inspired countless individuals. To honor Doug’s legacy, the Sunset Sketchers and SF Sketchers aim to place a commemorative plaque on a bench in Golden Gate Park—a place he loved and often found inspiration. This bench will serve as a lasting tribute, offering park visitors a place to rest and reflect on the beauty Doug brought into the world. We kindly seek your support to make this memorial a reality. Your contribution will help us secure the bench and plaque, ensuring Doug's spirit continues to inspire all who visit the park.
