Honor Dr. Barry Scott: Help Lay Him to Rest
Donation protected
My name is Drew Scott. I am the second-born son of Dr. Barry Scott, who for more than 35 years was a pillar of the community of Rogers, AR, and Pea Ridge, where he was one of the very few dentists in Rogers and the only dentist in Pea Ridge for 35 years. He also made countless missionary trips to Honduras and Haiti to perform dentistry for the less fortunate while spreading the word of God. He was also known by many as “Brother Barry” because he was the leader of 1st and 2nd grade children’s church at Immanuel Baptist Church on 8th St. in Rogers throughout the '70s, '80s, and '90s, while earning top honors in the local Rotary chapter. He, Dr. Fay Bozeman, and soon-to-be Senator John Bozeman fought to establish and were the original founders of NWA FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). In the late '80s and early '90s, he spearheaded the initiative to add fluoride to Rogers' water supply, drastically reducing the amount of tooth decay and mandible bone loss observed in locals over the next 30 years. He literally gave his heart and soul to this community. What forced him into forced retirement was a combination of losing the ability to use his hands (rheumatoid arthritis) and the passing of his wife and firstborn. He was absolutely distraught and no longer himself. On November 6, 2024, this great man left our physical world.
As his son, I had heard him mention a life insurance policy multiple times in the last two years, but he was very secretive because he did not want money to become an issue that would divide our family. But now that he has passed away, it has become apparent there was no life insurance, and my sister and I have a $6,000 bill that we have no idea how to even go about. If we were to empty our bank accounts and put the rest on our credit cards, we still could barely even get him cremated. And this would be OK, but I truly believe my dad did so much for this community. He deserves to be laid to rest next to his wife, my mom. As much as I hate to beg, I know that there are many of you out there that my father had an effect on in a positive light, so I thought I’d try this. It just may be that there are enough people he’s touched who could donate even just a little to make that possible. Thank you so very much, and God bless.
