Honor Dr. Dolores R. McCray's Legacy
Donation protected
It breaks my heart to write this, but I am raising funds to give my grandmother, Dr. Dolores R. McCray, the burial she deserves.
On January 18th, my grandma suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to Mount Sinai. She has been on life support since then, but despite the best efforts of the doctors and nurses, she will not recover. Her final day with us will be Monday.
Just days before, on January 14th, we celebrated her 86th birthday—never imagining it would be her last. Her passing comes as a devastating shock to our family and to all who knew and loved her.
My grandmother was a pillar of her community. She remained active, dedicated, and giving until the very end. She recently received an award from NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health at their inaugural gala for her service as secretary on the Board of Directors. She was a devoted member of The Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, attending services every Sunday for decades. And even in her 80s, she continued to serve as a poll worker during elections, standing on her feet for over eight hours to ensure that people could exercise their right to vote.
She leaves behind her beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Charles Jr., Dolores Jr., Sean, myself, Alex and Alex jr.
Because this was so sudden and unexpected, my grandmother did not have financial preparations in place. Before the pandemic, she used all her savings to address a health issue, and some of you may remember when I previously raised funds to help cover her rent during that difficult time.
Now, we want to honor her legacy with a proper burial—one that reflects the love and dignity she gave to the world. Unfortunately, we are unable to afford the costs on our own.
If you are able to contribute, any amount would mean the world to us. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would be just as valuable.
Thank you for your love, support, and generosity during this incredibly difficult time.
