Honor Frank Wright's WWII Return Journey to Iwo Jima
Donation protected
Frank S. Wright is a 99-year-old WWII Marine Veteran who was part of the famed Marine Raiders, the first special forces in the US Armed Forces. He was wounded both in Guam and in Iwo Jima. After so many years of trying to forget about his WWII experiences, especially the traumatizing episodes which led to a lifetime of severe shellshock now known as PTSD, he decided to go back to Guam in 2024 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of that island. That trip helped him heal a lot. This year, he would like to visit Iwo Jima on the 80th anniversary of that hard-fought battle on that island. However, to make this happen, we need to raise money to take Frank, his escort, and also a cameraman to cover his spectacular story.
Throughout this campaign, we will be as transparent as possible.
We have to fly from California to either Hawaii or Japan and then on to Guam. The cost for this leg of the journey is around $3,000. The flight itself takes more than 15 hours.
Due to restricted access to the island of Iwo Jima, we are required to take a charter jet from Guam to Iwo Jima with a cost of at least $3,000 per person... perhaps more.
In addition, there will be expenses for lodging, food, and other needs.
Frank's escorts include me, fellow Marine "Gunny" Marvin HernandezGarcia, and cameraman Michael Cockrell, who will be documenting the trip and posting on social media.
Understand that Corporal Wright is 99 years old. He is frail but very strong of will and is determined to go on this epic journey.
Note: All proceeds will be managed by The Stockton Marine Corps Club a 501(c)(4) Combat Veterans Organization in Stockton, California. Please visit our website at https://www.stocktonmarinecorpsclub.org/ for further information.
