On November 21st, the music scene lost not only a dedicated supporter but the very soul of our community.Jill Schrader, a single mother and a lifelong lover of music, passed away in her home in Scottsdale, AZ, leaving behind a void that will be impossible to fill. She was just 41 years old.
Born in 1983 in Roanoke, VA, Jill's love for music was deep-rooted. From a young age, she found solace and joy in the rhythms and lyrics that shaped her life. Her passion for the local music scene was unmatched. She was a constant presence at shows, cheering on bands and lifting up artists, from Roanoke to North Carolina. Jill was never just a fan—she was part of the pulse that kept the scene alive, a champion of the underground, a tireless advocate for the power of music to heal and connect.
Jill's life was not without its challenges. As a single mother, she gave everything to her daughter Samantha, always striving to create a better future for her. In the past few years, Jill took bold steps to shape her career, moving across the country to take a job in Project Development for Shiba Imports in Scottsdale. Despite the new adventure, she never left behind the thing she loved most: music. Even in a new city, she remained connected to the bands, the venues, and the people who had always been her second family.
Her family—her parents,Pat and Debbie Schrader, her brother Simon, and her grandmother Nessie Burns—are now left with the heartbreaking task of laying her to rest. With a heavy heart, they share that due to financial difficulties, they are unable to bring Jill home to Virginia for the funeral or cover the costs of burial.
The loss of Jill is felt deeply by those who knew her, and by all who were touched by her energy, enthusiasm, and unwavering support. Jill didn’t just listen to music; she lived it. And now, as her family navigates this devastating time, they need our help.
