Jimmie Lee Wooten -  Brother|Friend|Father - Sunrise 8.12.1961 * Sunset 7.17.2020

Jimmie L. Wooten, also known as "Señor" to his students and colleagues, had teaching as one of his greatest loves. Señor bragged so much about his students, worked hard spending long hours after school on lesson plans, grading, spending extra time with students, and figuring out what he could do to best benefit them and change their lives.

He is known to many students as their "favorite teacher." This came easily as Jimmie would profess to anyone how much he loved his students and cared for their futures. He would often tell them "you cannot afford to be average," and would push them beyond what they thought were their limits.

Jimmie fell in love with the Spanish language early on in his schooling. He was intelligent, dedicated, and a well-known detail-oriented perfectionist. His love only grew for the language and culture over the years, especially through his travel to Spain and his decision to switch careers and become a Spanish teacher. This was his niche.

Through different school systems, he fought and advocated for his Foreign Language Departments, made it known how important and beneficial it is to have in school, was an amazing example of a teacher, and made sure that his students and their educational journeys were always advocated for.

As his daughter, I immediately knew that my father would want nothing more than to be able to continue to benefit the Foreign Language Department at South Middle School. Brockton Public Schools meant a lot to my father, as he frequently would express his sense of belonging and purpose as a teacher within the system.

To his students and colleagues, he loved you -- you were his external family. I believe  that he has a certain legacy within South Middle School and that this fundraiser is just a touch of what would have continued to come from my father's heart.

Please, donate if you can in lieu of flowers or anything you may have been considering.

* The lump sum will go directly to South Middle School's Foreign Language department bank via the district's educational foundation.
