Honor Joseph Lyons with a Memorial Bench

Donation protected
We are incredibly grateful for all your kind donations, we will be ending this campaign tomorrow and will post updates on his bench.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Grandfather, Joseph Lyons, we would like to donate a bench to the city of Somerville with a dedication to him for his long service to the community and children.

Joe served the city of Somerville as a crossing guard for over 20 years. He lived across the street from Palmacci Playground and would watch us while we played there. He was a crossing guard at Argenziano and even was there when it was Lincoln Park. He was a union rep for the crossing guard union and cared deeply about the Somerville community. He was a devoted church member of the Saint Joseph Parish down the street from Argenziano, where he volunteered and worked for decades. We are deciding if we should request the bench for Palmacci Playground or at Lincoln Park/Argenziano where he worked. He was the subject of many students' hero projects, and he read to them one year. He always volunteered to chaperone all my field trips. He was honored before he left the school in early retirement due to his declining health, but he fought to be out there for as long as possible. I would like to honor his memory as I believe he should be remembered for the rest of time.

We appreciate your love and support during this difficult time.
