Honor The Late Mrs. Cherraye : Support Her Family and Legacy

Update: Mrs. Cherryaye Oats is now an ancestor. Her wonderful spirit departed her body this morning, 9/16/2024. Our mission is still the same; support her family and help keep them, but now they need even more support as they mourn the loss.

Her Story:

Mrs. Cherraye first got sick a month ago with what originally seemed like an easily treatable infection, but after a severe reaction to antibiotics, doctors also discovered that her cancer was no longer in remission and had metastasized to her liver meaning there are no other recommended treatment options. Mrs. Cherraye has remained hospitalized for the last two weeks with doctors doing what they can do keep her comfortable as she transitions to the ancestral realm.

Our Reason:

This GoFundMe is being created to support her husband Robert Oats, children and grandchildren in paying medical bills, funeral and burial costs as well as making sure that the grandchildren she loved and cared for deeply can continue to be supported by beloved community as Mrs. Cherraye takes her rest.

As many of you may know, Mrs. Cherraye is the niece of Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer, and she has dedicated herself tirelessly to the care of children and empowerment of youth in rural Mississippi through the Fannie Lou Hamer Center for Change. We ask that those wanting to give flowers make a donation instead in her honor to the center as her daughter Kayla continues the work of caring for and empowering youth.

**Beneficiary is Robert Oats who is Cherraye's husband and he will use the funds to cover outstanding medical bills, funeral and burial costs, and household bills that are behind due to his being present at the hospital with his wife during her illness and then supporting the grandchildren she has selflessly been helping to care for.
