Honor Nashville's Lost: Marking their Way Home
Donation protected
In recent years, Nashville has experienced a heartbreaking number of pedestrian fatalities. In 2021, 38 lives were lost. In 2022, 48. And in 2023, 37. These lives matter, and it’s time we take action.
Mental health practitioner and transportation reform advocate, George Michael Jackson (GMJ), is working to raise awareness and inspire change. The reality is that Nashville's city infrastructure often fails the very people it’s supposed to serve—those of us who walk, bike, and rely on public transportation. The goal is to not only honor the lives lost but to call attention to the gaps in safety and infrastructure that continue to affect our communities.
To memorialize those who lost their lives, we’re working with community members to create wooden doves to be placed across Davidson County as markers on the roadways where tragedies have occurred. The dove, a symbol of peace and hope, serves as a reminder that we must all coexist safely on our streets. These markers will stand as a collective cry for safer roads, and a future where every life is cherished.
We’re looking to raise $5,000.00 to cover the cost of materials and labor, as well as to continue our grassroots efforts to advocate for safer streets. The funds raised will directly support the carpenters who will craft these wooden doves and the other materials needed to ensure they are placed throughout the county.
Together, we can shine a light on the need for change. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us honor those lost and push for a safer, more equitable future.
Thank you for being part of this movement. We can’t do it without you.
With hope,
