Honor Timothy Hurley: Aid His Family's Journey

My father, Timothy Hurley, was a veteran newspaper reporter with over 45 years of experience, residing in Hawaii. For decades, he has been a kind and passionate storyteller with a dedication to keeping the community informed and engaged. In December 2023, he put his career on hold to take FMLA and care for my mother, Zenna MacGregor, who was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. After those 12 weeks, Timothy made the difficult decision to retire in March 2024, as the time he spent with my mother during her battle simply wasn’t enough.

Shortly after retirement, my father began experiencing troubling symptoms of his own. Following multiple tests and consultations, he received the devastating diagnosis of stage 4 diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Starting Monday, September 23rd, he was receiving 1 to 1 24/7 care from nurses in the ICU due to a rare complication from this aggressive cancer. As hard and relentlessly as his body fought to withstand this cancer, his fight came to an unexpected end on September 29th.

Timothy’s strength and resilience as a caregiver to my mother, a loving and loyal father to his children, and a hardworking man has touched our lives and many of those around us. Through this fight, Timothy and my mother have burdened mounting medical bills and numerous travel and lodging expenses for his four out-of-state children.

We are reaching out to ask for support during this incredibly difficult time. Any and all contributions would go to Zenna, which she will use for: alleviating the overwhelming expenses of the preventative measures taken for his care, the costs with my mothers medical bills for her cancer journey, relocation and temporary living costs for my now widowed and still cancer-fighting mother, and costs for funeral expenses.
