Honor veteran Richard Porter: Help with Burial Costs
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Deborah Guy. I'm seeking donations to assist in the sudden expenses for burying my 73-year-old Vietnam veteran uncle, Richard Porter. He passed away on December 19, at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama. M.I. refused his wishes to be transported to the VA, as well as refused to treat the condition he was originally admitted for. Meanwhile, they only gave the option for hospice since his DNR included dialysis treatments, as it would be the adverse treatment for the condition he was there for. After almost two weeks of suffering, he finally agreed to hospice since trying to involve the VA, elder abuse agencies, and any other agencies supposed to protect the vulnerable or veterans were all unsuccessful.
Since he had been seeking civilian doctors since 2018, his request to be transferred to the VA was denied by Mobile Infirmary, stating they were unable to fulfill his last wishes and that there was insufficient reason to transfer hospital to hospital. They stated hospice was only allowed at their center or where he was already.
I'm currently still trying to apply for any assistance he may receive from the VA; however, most require him to have been at their hospital and not a civilian. I've contacted a funeral home near the Biloxi Memorial Cemetery where I'm trying to have him buried, but even getting things going has expenses. If anyone could spare anything, I pray the Lord bless you ten-fold. The circumstances and living conditions this man was forced to endure while he endured two Vietnam tours for us is absolutely horrifying and heartbreaking. I pray his last wishes to be honored and fulfilled.
