Honor Your DNA by Funding Cemeteries Lee County
Donation protected
I'm sounding the alarm about the plight of cemeteries across America by raising money to save those located in Lee County, FL. If we the people can do it here in SW Florida, then there's hope we can duplicate our success county by county, state by state. Will you help pay your pro rata share of the annual costs to protect, repair, and improve the graves of our local deceased? The handful of seniors out there with their mowers desperately trying to do the work themselves need some relief. Unfortunately, they can't hold on much longer and I've witnessed what happens when nature takes over after they're gone.
America's historic cemeteries, the sacred burial grounds of our ancestors, are in trouble. Our stone antiquities etched with precious names, dates, and epitaphs are experiencing irreparable damage due to neglect. I call on all American citizens to come to the aid of our shared hallowed grounds. Maintaining the graves of your ancestors is no longer someone else's responsibility. It's your responsibility. It's all of our responsibility and each must pay their fair share.
It's unrealistic to expect a surviving family member to travel to Lee County every week to tend to a grave. If you look, you'll find you have at least 150 grandparents in marked graves across at least five states and more than 80 cemeteries. Why should it be one old man's responsibility to maintain a cemetery when more than half a million people are living today who descend directly from the 500 people buried in said cemetery?
Adopting cremation as an acceptable form of disposal for loved ones has decimated the sale of burial plots at historic cemeteries. The sale of burial plots was the primary source of income to fund cemetery maintenance costs. We allowed laws to be enacted that eliminated low cost grave site options thereby creating near monopolies for the owners of mega-cemeteries. As absurd as it sounds, a traditional Christian burial has become a luxury.
There's a War Dog Cemetery located in South Lyon, MI. That dog cemetery is our new standard for human cemeteries. We're going to outsource basic mowing and trimming services to give the old timers a break. We're going to clean the black algae off the headstones. We're going to repair the damaged and crooked headstones. We're going to install new flag poles. We're going to install new fencing. We're going to install new signage. We're going to make Lee County cemeteries look like that dog cemetery in Michigan!
Are you with me? Let's do this. Let's honor our DNA.
