Honorary Firefighter Henry Chang
Donation protected
Henry is an seven-year-old boy who was diagnosed with stage IV High Risk Neuroblastoma cancer in August of 2015. Henry has fought bravely through two bone marrow transplants, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and more medical procedures than any seven-year-old should have to endure. Since then, Henry began many tests and treatments in order to beat the cancer out of his body. Recently, Henry’s mother Heather and father Henry have learned that these treatments have failed to stop the cancer’s progress.
Henry's Mom would like to take Family Leave to spend time with Henry, but without her income the family would be unable to pay their mortgage and essential bills while she is home with her son. Henry's parents are a Teacher and a Special Education Aide in the West Orange Public School District. The couple have dedicated their lives to working in the public schools and reside in West Orange as well. Both Henry and his younger brother, Derrick, are enrolled in West Orange Public Schools.
In August of 2017 the Delran Fire Department learned of Henrys illness and brought him in as an Honorary Firefighter. Honorary Firefighter Henry was going into heart failure and had to undergo surgery to drain fluid around the tumor on his heart amongst other problems. Honorary Firefighter Henry is no longer able to walk and is confined to either a wheelchair or bed. Honorary Firefighter Henry is unable to make the trip to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia anymore, as the travel is too much for his frail body.
Family and fellow firefighters can’t even ask for prayers to give him strength to continue the fight, but prayers for peace and comfort as his time draws near.
We ask anyone to please help and donate to help Henry’s parents, so they do not have to worry about any financial problems while they spend their last moments with their son.
