Honoring Amy Baker with a Memorial Bench & Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
Help raise funds to honor Amy Baker, Class of 1989, Falls Church High School!
Amy Baker was many things to many people during the course of her short life. She lived in Falls Church with her family and went to Falls Church High School (FCHS). Her life was taken as she was walking to find help after her car ran out of gas. For over 30 years, no one was arrested for this crime. Her family, friends, and classmates have been haunted by the loss of her life and the fact the person who ended her life had never been identified and brought to justice.
In March 2024, a suspect was arrested for a similar cold-case murder that had taken place in northern Virginia in 1986. Forensic investigative genetic genealogy had matched him to DNA found at the scene of that crime; it also linked him to Amy's murder. He is expected to be charged with murder in Amy's case as well.
I don’t know about you but when I heard a suspect was identified, I was overcome with emotion. I knew something should be done to celebrate Amy’s memory and create a memorial at the school where so many of us knew her.
Dr. Ricardy Anderson, Mason District Fairfax County School Board Member and Dr. Ben Nowak, the Falls Church High School Principal have approved the placement of a bench in the new FCHS student courtyard. Your donation will be used to purchase a bench in Amy’s memory and to fund a scholarship for an FCHS student pursuing the arts post high school as that had been Amy’s dream.
We are hoping to raise $5,000.00 and hope all those who knew her will come help dedicate the bench in the late summer / early fall of 2024. Please help us meet this goal. Updates will be posted as we have a better idea of when the dedication will be held.
