With profound sadness, we share the heartbreaking news that our dear friend Ben passed away just one week after being diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in March 2025. His time was far too short, but he faced this sudden and devastating illness with the same grace, strength, and kindness that defined his life.
Ben dedicated himself to serving others. Originally from Kansas, he spent the past decade at UC Berkeley, where he made a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike. Before that, his work with AmeriCorps reflected his deep commitment to helping communities in need. He was selfless, compassionate, and always put others before himself.
Ben leaves behind his loving partner, Elaine, his cherished furbabies, his devoted parents, and his beloved siblings. His family and loved ones are now faced with the unimaginable grief of losing him so suddenly. As they navigate this painful time, we want to ease the financial burden of funeral expenses and related costs, allowing them the space to grieve without added stress.
