With grief we share the passing of William (Bill) Zapotechne Sr. after a lengthy battle with cancer. Bill passed in the early hours of June 11, 2024 after being surrounded by family, both near and far (via wonderful technology) listening to his favorite music and being comforted by those present.
Bill lived with his wife of 45 years, Norma (Zehnder) Zapotechne in Austin, Texas for the past ten years after moving from Oberlin, Ohio where he raised his eight children over twenty years, and hails from Cleveland, Ohio where he himself grew up.
Bill touched so many people's lives throughout the years being an advocate to youth, creating spaces for self expression, confidence, forgiveness and radical kindness. All of his children would attest that he consistently taught and lived the power and necessity of love.
One of four brothers (Steve, David and Dan Zapotechne) Bill is survived by his wife Norma, daughter Jessie Zapotechne, son William Zapotechne Jr. (Rochelle Zapotechne, Goldie Zapotechne, Jack Zapotechne), daughter Tammy Zapotechne-Kelley (Matt Kelley, Solomon Kelley, Eli Kelley, Gwen Kelley), son Joey Zapotechne, son Jordan Zapotechne (Olivia Zapotechne, Christian Zapotechne, Arlo Zapotechne, Soleil Zapotechne, Lola Zapotechne), son Jonn Zapotechne (Kay Zapotechne, Ezra Zapotechne, Estelle Zapotechne) son Micah Zapotechne and daughter Abby Zapotechne (Eden Zapotechne).
