Honoring Corey Shaw: Family Needs Our Help

My name is Dave Atwood. Corey was my cousin by blood, but in our minds, we were brothers. We grew up together, lived together for a time, grew apart, and then grew back together. We never lost touch. We went hunting at the Lodge (you know the spot) and spent countless hours next to a fire, unraveling all the mysteries of the universe.

The last couple of years, while Corey struggled with his health, have been absolutely heartbreaking. Watching and listening to him battle his health complications, grapple with his mortality, and sharing songs with each other—and then seeing him go in and out of the ICU—and ultimately being there to say goodbye just after his untimely passing... it has just been one gut punch after another.

Now, his family needs us. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and stepfather and was unable to secure a life insurance policy due to his health conditions. As a result, resources are low.

Community is important. It was important to Corey and it's important now. Corey touched so many lives, and after reading the comments on his Facebook post, I know we can step up for his family. Let's help them put my bro-cuz to rest and gather to celebrate Corey Michael Shaw. Once those expenses are covered, any remaining donations will be given to his children.

Here's how your generous donations will be used:

Corey's siblings - Lauren, Brett and Bryce have some things to sort out and pay for. Brett Goodman has an account set up and will be managing the funds which will spill over to Corey's kids - Aura and Cedar - once the immediate costs of Corey's passing have been taken care of.

Cremation: Covering the costs of Corey's cremation.

Memorial Service: Arranging a memorial service to celebrate Corey's life and provide a space for loved ones to gather and remember him.

Urn and Keepsakes: Providing a beautiful urn for Corey's ashes and creating meaningful keepsakes for his family.

Attorney Fees: Corey's assets will need to be sorted, and there will be associated legal fees.

Immediate Needs: Assisting the family with any immediate financial needs that arise during this difficult transition.

Any additional funds will be given to Corey's children
