In Loving Memory of Cynthia Kitt
On December 14, 2024, our beloved Cynthia Kitt was called home after suffering a sudden heart
attack. Surrounded by her special group of friends and acquaintances, and the art she loved, she
passed away at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of love, activism, and creative brilliance.
Cynthia, in a private moment, will be cremated on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Cynthia was a force of nature—a passionate advocate for ending sexual abuse, an unwavering
supporter of the arts, and a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She dedicated her life to
ensuring the stories of Black voices were told with dignity and authenticity, producing and co-
producing countless off-Broadway plays that celebrated Blackness and told our stories the right
way.
Her sudden death has left us in shock, and our family is now facing the financial burden of her
sudden death. The costs, made all the more difficult by her passing, occurred before she could
finalize any life insurance options. Cynthia’s 401k was depleted during the hardships of the
COVID-19 pandemic, and she had been working tirelessly in recent months to regain financial
stability. Unfortunately, the suddenness of her death has left us unprepared for these costs.
We are humbly asking for your support to help cover unaddressed expenses, and to assist with
the financial recovery needed for the family during this incredibly difficult time. Every
contribution, no matter how small, will provide comfort and relief in a time of deep loss.
Cynthia’s legacy will live on in our hearts for us and all who knew her. She was an angel on
earth, a beacon of light, and a compassionate soul who lived for the arts and for justice. We are
so grateful for your support during this heartbreaking time.
Thank you for honoring Cynthia’s memory and legacy.
With eternal love,
-Shumi, Sean and Tamia
