Honoring Dr. Milele Kudumu Bynum's Legacy

On Tuesday, July 9th, the beloved Dr. Milele Kudumu Bynum passed away after an eight-year battle with a rare brain cancer that was diagnosed during her family medicine residency and the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to her diagnosis, Dr. Kudumu Bynum was well known for her leadership in the UNC School of Medicine, SNMA, and MED communities. She was a former National SNMA President and 2023 UNC School of Medicine Zollicoffer Living Legend Award Recipient. Her passion and pursuit to be a physician was unwavering despite several personal and medical obstacles that she faced.

This fund has been established by her dedicated husband, loving family, and cherished friends with the support of the UNC medical community she helped lead and serve. These funds will be used to create a scholarship for medical students who exhibit the characteristics of Dr. Kudumu Bynum by showing leadership and resilience while facing adversity or pursuing a non-traditional path to medicine.
