Dearest Family and Friends,

On August 29, 2021, our lives were forever changed. On that day we lost our best friend, our mentor, our loving Edgard, and my Baba ('Father' in English). He promised us he would never give up and he never did, fighting through the end.

Over the years and in the last few weeks, many of you have told me how much my Baba taught you, how he mentored each of you, and how you will miss stimulating conversations with him.

My Baba constantly urged me to “always wonder.” He never wanted me to stop questioning or contemplating the meaning of life. What was it all about? What was my purpose on this earth? What steps would I take to become part of the “trunk of the tree and not simply part of the tree's branches?” Most moments with Baba were teaching moments; this was his latest one for me.

His strength and legacy will live on and his fighting spirit fuels us to continue to become part of the trunk of the tree and not simply part of the tree's branches. We will not stop wondering, questioning, learning, engaging, and cherishing.

In honor and memory of my father, we are raising funds for NGOs with the same purposes he always valued. Funds will be withdrawn and shared with the following organization:

Beit el Baraka is an NGO built to 'ensure dignity to hard working Lebanese citizens by assisting them in their struggle with the increasing cost of living. In a spirit of respect and support, we give them access to food, decent livelihood, medical services and education.'

All donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated. We know and feel the impact of my father's legacy on everyone he crossed paths with in his life. And we hope to create a similar impact in his honor, with this legacy fund for all people’s civil liberties, for justice, and equality for all.
