Honoring Joseph Odundo Okeyo – A Final Journey Home to Kenya
Donation protected
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Joseph Odundo Okeyo on January 8th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully on the day of his 44th wedding anniversary, surrounded by his loving wife, Selina, their three sons, Opiyo (Jeffrey), Matt, and Kasiemba, and his adoptive brother, Porter.

Joseph was a devoted husband and father, a man of faith, as well as a dear friend and respected teacher to so many. His kindness, wisdom, passion for storytelling, and love for his homeland in Kenya touched the lives of everyone he met.
In line with his final wishes, we are planning a funeral here in the United States, followed by the returning of his remains to his homeland village of Kasiemba on Rusinga Island in Kenya, where he will be laid to rest among his ancestors. In Kenyan culture, we honor the practice of Harambee—a tradition of community support that brings people together in times of need, which is why we are reaching out for help during this challenging time.
We are raising funds to cover the costs of:
• Funeral and memorial services in the U.S.
• Transportation of Joseph's remains to Kenya
• Burial and cultural ceremonies in Kasiemba Village, Kenya
• Travel expenses for the immediate family to attend the ceremonies
Any donation, no matter the amount, will help us give Joseph the dignified farewell he deserves. If you are unable to contribute at this time, please share this page with others who may wish to support, and keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. Funeral service details will be announced soon.
To know Joseph is to know his story and the deep, proud love he had for his Kenyan homeland. We are deeply appreciative of your generous support as we honor Joseph's legacy and fulfill his final wishes.
Sincerely,
The Okeyo Family: Selina, Opiyo, Matt, and Kasiemba
