Memorial Fund to Honor Jovita H. Solis
Our matriarch, Jovita H. Solis, left us on Sunday August 22, 2021 after a battle with lung cancer. She was placed on hospice, and four weeks later she was gone, leaving a huge hole in our hearts and lives, that will always be felt by the entire Solis family and friends that loved her.
All who knew my grandmother knew she epitomized the word unique as she was truly one of a kind. If you were fortunate enough to have met her, then you were also fortunate enough to have your own unique experience with her, and if your fortune ran deeper and you were able to get to know her, then your bond with her was as solid as the foundation she provided for her family. There are too many wonderful stories to share about this empowered, often stubborn, funny, have it her way or not at all, woman; however, my personal favorite that I love to hear and share, because it clearly displays her character, is the time she was pulled over for failing to make a complete stop at a stop sign. When the officer decided to cite her, she disagreed with his choice and refused the ticket that would tarnish her impeccable driving record. She said to the officer in her adorable, yet direct Spanish accented English, “No! You will NOT give me a ticket! I have been driving for 52 years without getting ANY tickets, and you will NOT give me one today!” And as the incomparable Jovita Solis, ended her exchange with that officer, driving off into the sunset ticketless, she did in fact keep her driving record intact. It’s this tenacity I will miss the most.
At this time we are asking for any help with donations big or small to help her daughter, Monique Solis, with the final expenses of the memorial service taking place this Saturday September 4th, 2021. We wish to honor our matriarch in the way she absolutely deserved. Thank you all, we appreciate your continued love and support throughout this extremely difficult time.
