Honoring Julius Laban Murungi: Help Support His Transition

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday March 11th, 2025, our dear dad transitioned. We are still processing all the emotions as we make preparations to celebrate his life and help him on his way. From the official death and funeral announcement:

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Julius Laban Murungi on 11th March 2025 in Chogoria,Tharaka Nithi County.

He was the son of the late Laban & Thamaru M’Muga. Beloved husband to Charity Mukwanyaga.

Father of Franklin Mutembei & Dorcas, Betty & James Orengo, Rose Muchiri, late Andrew and Mary Muriuki, Eric & Carol, late Linda Kagendo, Curtis Murungi and Kevin Murungi & Jaymie Stein. Grandfather of Mukami, Makena, Munene, late Kanana, Bob, Michael, Zeni, Andrea, John Julius, Ty, Gigi, Bella Dia, and Sulayna. Great grandfather of eight. He was third born in a family of 18 brothers and sisters.

Family and friends are meeting daily at Mzee Murungi’s home in Wiru, and at Majira for prayers and funeral arrangements. Meetings in Nairobi will be held on 20 and 21 March starting at 5:00pm at the Orengo residence.

The Burial service will be conducted by PCEA Wiru, at Wiru Primary School grounds , Chogoria, on 26th March starting at 10:00am , followed by interment at Butiama.

On a personal note, I remain eternally grateful that he was able to meet mine and Jaymie's precious little Sulayna. The bond between them was instant , deeply loving and so very sweet, as you can see in the some of the pictures. The memory of the time they shared together is one that I will hold in my heart forever.

We are asking for support from our community of friends for Mzee Murungi's funeral and burial arrangements. Anything you can give will be deeply appreciated by my family and I.
