A bit more about Mr. Kim's life and legacy by his daughter, Angelina...
"To you all, my dad was a mechanic, a donut shop owner, a father, a son, a brother, and a grandfather. But to me, he was a superhero...
Our dad's journey began in 1964 in the vibrant heart of Cambodia. He was born into the world filled with promise. However, by 1975 his childhood was shattered by the Khmer Rouge - a dark period that would take away his parents and change his life forever.
At just 15 years old, he lost everything and found himself in a foster home in 1979; a place that offered him shelter and support during the turmoil of his youth. Kim became a refugee at the tender age of 15, facing unimaginable challenges with resilience and determination.
It was during this time that he caught the attention of the United Nations. They recognized his unwavering work ethic and dedication, which led to a life changing opportunity - a job as a mechanic and a mechanic certification that would pave the way for his future.
In 1982, Kim was adopted - a pivotal moment that brought him one step closer to us. By 1985, he moved to Boston with his new family. His hard earned skills allowed him to find work as a mechanic, where he thrived.
In 1990, destiny smiled upon him when he was shown a picture of our mom. With a smile, he said, "Yeah, I like it." Although our mom was hard to get at first, he worked harder to get her. His persistence paid off, and he eventually moved from Boston to California where he met our mom, the love of his life. They married and began a family together.
In 1992, our older brother Alex entered the world, followed by Allan in 1993. Our dad poured his heart into raising us, installing values of hard work, kindness and resilience. In 2004, seeking a better life for us, Kim accepted a job at Carmax in Texas. The move was not just for a new job. It was a chance to provide us with an opportunity he never had. In 2006, our family grew with the birth of me. In 2016, Kim became a grandfather to Lily; a role he cherished deeply.
His love and dedication extended beyond our immediate family, creating a legacy with warmth and strength. Today, as we remember Kim Lim, we celebrate a man who faced adversity with courage and emerged with a heart full of love. His life story is one of perseverance, hope, and unwavering spirit. Though he has passed away, his legacy lives on in each of us.
Thank you, Dad, for showing us what it means to rise above our challenges, to love fiercely, and to create a better life for those who come after us. You will always be in our hearts."
