Honoring Kimberly Geddie
Donation protected
We’re writing today with heavy hearts, that are also somewhat lightened by hearing and knowing how our beloved Kimberly Geddie made so many feel truly seen for their strengths, faults, and potential to change - from her students, to her fellow teachers and classmates, to the bartenders and regulars at her favorite bars, to her trivia partners and competitors, to her fellow sports fans and rivals, to her coworkers and reports, to her vast network of fellow social justice advocates around the world, to her many friends and those she counted as family, to her food blog followers and baked goods eaters, to the many pets and babies she snuggled.
In her 35 years, Kimberly not only touched us as individuals, but also brought so much care, brilliance, and commitment to every movement, team, and organization she channeled her talents toward. We know her legacy will live on in each of us.
We're also grateful to those of you wanting to contribute financial resources to honor her and/or to help to cover the costs related to her passing. Her family has covered the cost of her cremation and other expenses, and we're seeking help with the internment costs. Based on what we know now, we anticipate needing about USD $6,000 for the cost of the internment of her remains at Trinity Church Cemetery in New York City (~$5,000) and any unforeseen costs (~$1,000). All funds raised beyond this and unused will be donated in her honor to a charity that was meaningful to Kimberly, such as the Ali Forney Center, the American Civil Liberties Union, Black Lives Matter, Human Rights Campaign, Opportunity Agenda, and Planned Parenthood.
Thank you in advance for any contributions -- we’ll be sure to keep you updated about the plans for her memorial, where to find her niche at Trinity Church Cemetery, and the charity that receives the remaining funds.
We are sending you love and warm wishes that you, too, are finding comfort in the fond memories you hold of Kimberly.
