Honoring Leng Pen: Support for Final Farewell

It is with deep sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Leng Pen, affectionately known to many as "Yey." Born on August 15, 1931, in Cambodia, she passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2024, just a couple of weeks shy of her 93rd birthday.

Leng was the epitome of strength, love, and resilience. She was a woman of many layers, a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, wise elder, and an extraordinary cook. Her life was a rich tapestry woven with love, laughter, and unwavering determination.

In search of safety and a better future, Leng and her late husband, Reth Yin, made the courageous decision to flee their war-torn homeland during Pol Pot's regime, seeking refuge in the United States with their seven children. Sadly, one of her children passed away during the difficult journey. Her story is one of immense courage and sacrifice, marked by a fierce commitment to her family.

Leng was a unique and multifaceted person. To some, she was the embodiment of kindness, humor, and generosity. To others, she was blunt, dramatic, and occasionally demanding. But through it all, she was always unapologetically herself. A complete and total person, deeply loved and cherished by those fortunate enough to know her.

While we mourn the profound loss of Leng, we also celebrate the long and beautiful life she lived. She touched so many lives in her nearly 93 years, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
