Honoring Lorenzo: Supporting Families After Stillbirth & Expanding Our Impact

Why This Mission Matters
On January 27, 2022, my son Lorenzo Michael Cockrell was born still. I left the hospital with empty arms and a heart full of questions, grief, and pain that no parent should have to endure. But what made my loss even more devastating was the lack of support, resources, and financial assistance for families experiencing stillbirth and infant loss—especially in the Black community, where maternal mortality and loss rates remain alarmingly high.
In honor of Lorenzo, I founded Our Birthing Stories, a nonprofit dedicated to:
✅ Providing funeral assistance for families navigating the unexpected costs of burying their babies.
✅ Creating culturally responsive support programs for grieving parents.
✅ Advocating for Black maternal health and improved bereavement policies.
✅ Educating and training providers, doulas, and employers on how to better support families after stillbirth.
We are doing the work, but we need your help to sustain and expand it.
How Your Donations Will Help
With your generous contribution, we will:
Fund Funeral Assistance ($30,000)
- Provide financial relief to families who cannot afford to bury their babies.
Develop a Grief & Healing Curriculum ($25,000)
- Create culturally responsive education materials for families, doulas, and healthcare professionals.
Sustain the Work & Leadership of Our Birthing Stories ($45,000)
- Pay a full-time salary to continue this mission and expand advocacy efforts.
Host Community Healing Circles & Trainings ($10,000)
- Offer in-person and virtual grief support spaces for parents and families.
