Honoring Megan Keleman: Scholarship Legacy

On August 14th, the beautiful life of Megan Keleman was taken by a random act of violence. Megan led a life that left an impact on everyone she encountered. Her passion for helping in her community did not go unnoticed. She was employed at Shelter Care, a non-profit organization that focused on helping youth in crisis. In her free time, she volunteered for Girls on the Run. She devoted time to being a role model for young girls, helping build their self-confidence and fostering friendships. She had just completed her MBA this past May at Cleveland State University, with a focus in non-profit management. Megan was intelligent, driven, and passionate about the things she loved. Megan was known for enjoying a good baseball game with a great hot dog; an activity she shared with her loved ones. Megan and her family had a close relationship with one another. Her father, Nick, and her shared their love of baseball by going to opening day Guardians' games each season. Her Mother and her shared their compassionate heart, as Kelly works in the medical field helping people each day. Her brother, Matthew, and her shared their love of Crocs by always sporting a pair everywhere they would go. Most importantly, they shared love for each other and will forever continue to. The Kelemans recently got their dog, Penny, with whom Megan shared a special bond. Megan claimed she was "just a baby" anytime she had the "zoomies." They were best friends. Megan was passionate about education and dreamed of one day getting her PhD. She made an impact on her Cleveland State University community where she was involved and a leader in many student organizations. She was also a staff member for years and a recent graduate assistant for the university. Because of her passion for education, the proceeds will be used for scholarships on Megan's behalf.

As quoted by Laura Bloomburg, the President of Cleveland State University, "As a talented writer, Megan herself once provided advice on handling such tragic situations, and I suggest we all consider her words. 'Happiness is forceful,' she wrote in a 2020 article for The Cauldron. 'Surrounding yourself with positive people is a great way to help you in challenging times because their happiness is contagious.' Be kind to yourself and each other in the days ahead."
