Honoring Nicholas Burkett's Memory

Nicholas was our only son & was tragically taken from us at age 34. He was the forth, & final victim in the mass stabbings in downtown Denver the weekend of January 11-12 2025. He was a charismatic, outgoing, adventurous, fun person that loved life. I'm not afraid to say that he struggled with mental health, addiction issues, & he was living on the streets of Denver at the time. Which from what we're learning, the killer Elijah Caudill, also suffered with similar issues. But Nick was never violent, & he never hurt anyone. Elijah Caudill was released on a PR Bond, without any supervision in November 2024 just before killing my son, one other victim, & injuring 2 others. These issues are never an excuse, or reason for violence. We are a family of Colorado natives, & have lived in Jefferson County, mainly Arvada, most of our lives. We are looking for support from our community being that we are a lower income family, without many resources or means. We as a society have to do better to prevent things like this from happening especially when all the clues are given. Our family will be advocating for criminal justice reforms as we proceed through the case, to ensure our streets safer.

Honoring our only son, Nicholas Burkett, who was brutally murdered in the mass stabbings in downtown Denver on Sunday, January 12, 2025. He was one of four victims, and one of the two deaths that occurred, taking him from us at age 34. We are hoping to raise funds to help with his funeral and the final costs to lay our son to rest and get through this extremely difficult time.
