Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
With broken hearts and trembling voices, we share the tragic loss of our beloved sister, wife, and daughter, Nimco Bashir Daud, who returned to her Creator on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Nimco’s life was cruelly cut short in a vicious and hateful attack as she made her way home from work. Targeted simply for being a woman, Black, and Muslim, she was robbed of her future, her dreams, and her chance to be embraced once more by her loved ones. Her final moments were spent on the phone with her best friend until her very last breath.
Nimco was more than just a remarkable woman—she was a radiant soul, a source of light and warmth in the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her. Her kindness knew no bounds, her faith was unshakable, and her courage was an inspiration to all who crossed her path. Nimco gave of herself so selflessly, always finding ways to uplift others, whether through her gentle words, her infectious laughter, or her steadfast support in times of need.
Her loss is not only a personal tragedy for her family and friends but a painful reminder of the prejudice and hate that still exists in our world. Nimco’s life was a testament to resilience, dignity, and love, yet she was taken from us because of the very things that made her so beautiful. This heartbreaking injustice calls on all of us to stand against hate, to fight for equity, and to ensure that her memory serves as a beacon for change.
Nimco’s legacy will live on through the love she gave and the lives she touched. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) reminded us that even when someone departs this world, their deeds live on through Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity), beneficial knowledge, and the prayers of righteous descendants. Nimco’s goodness, generosity, and spirit will continue to inspire us and leave an indelible mark on this earth.
As we grieve this unimaginable loss, we pray that Allah (SWT) grants Nimco the highest place in Jannah, envelops her in mercy, and forgives her sins. May He grant her family and loved ones strength and patience in the face of this immense pain.
To honor Nimco’s memory, let us come together as a community to carry forward her legacy of kindness, compassion, and justice. Let us speak her name, tell her story, and vow to fight the injustices that claimed her life. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory light our way in this dark time.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
"Surely we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return."
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
