Honoring Pete Smith

Pete Smith passed away peacefully at his home in Bolinas on the evening of Friday, December 6, with his beloved wife, Dana, at his side.

In early November, Pete received a terminal cancer diagnosis. Earlier this week, he transitioned to hospice care and remained abed at home, surrounded by family and dear friends.

In his final days and weeks, Pete was visited by a remarkable number of people who loved him. This time has been a heartwarming display of community, love, and support that has moved us all. The best of Bolinas, and humanity, was on full display: hearts full, arms wide, love overflowing.

Angelic Stephanie, Pete's nurse, said, "I wish this for all beings." So do we.

The end of Pete's life came as a surprise to the family and, of course, brings large unexpected costs. Let’s come together to support this multigenerational Bolinas family as they grieve and honor Pete’s passing without financial strain.

Pete Smith touched so many of our lives and hearts in Bolinas. As a skilled and expert contractor and longtime member and captain of the Bolinas Volunteer Fire Department, Pete was often the first on site to help. Now, it’s time for us to show up in his memory, for Dana, and for his extended family.
