Honoring the Life of Mike Messmer

Dear friends and family,
I am writing to you today to let you know about the unexpected loss of my beloved father, Michael (Mike/Mez) Troy Messmer. On the morning of July 9th, my dad went golfing with some of his friends, and shortly after he went into cardiac arrest. Between the immediate reaction of his friends to do chest compressions until the ambulance arrived and the hard work of the medical team, my dad Mike, was able to fight back to life after his heart had stopped for 45 minutes. He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, where they decided it would be best for him to be seen by the advanced heart failure team at OHSU via life flight. He continued fighting for as long as he could, but ultimately his body began to shut down. There at OHSU his family, including but not limited to: his two daughters me (Sophia) and Paeyton, along with our mother and his partner Monica of 24 years, were able to hold his hand until he took his last breath at 2:42 a.m. on July 10th. As a partner, father, son, brother, and friend he was the most hard-working, friendly, caring, compassionate, and selfless person that touched almost every person he encountered.
During this devastating time, it has been a struggle to find the funds to cover not only funeral expenses but also living expenses, as my dad was the sole provider for our family. Between two daughters, one who is only becoming a freshman in high school & the other who is unable to drive, and a partner that cannot work due to disability, coming up with the funds for a proper memorial service and being able to afford necessities like groceries, bills, and even upcoming school supplies has felt impossible. We ask not only our friends and family but the community for help at this difficult time and to please consider donating if you are able to. The funds will be put towards my dad’s funeral costs and helping our family with living expenses and necessities to come. Our family is so beyond grateful for any and every donation during this unbearable time.
