Honoring the lives of Juan & Marta Sapon

Juan and Marta Sapon, husband and wife of more than 38 years, died tragically in a car accident on December 24, 2021 on their way to Christmas Eve Mass at St. Francis Catholic Church in Southwest Houston.

Marta & Juan are survived by their loving family- their sons Santos (33) and Juan Carlos (35) , as well as their daughter-in-law Angie and two grandchildren Jake and Emma.

Juan and Marta were active members of their community, and devout members of the Catholic church, regularly attending service at Holy Ghost, St. Cyril & St. Francis Catholic congregations. Marta sang as part of the choir, and Don Juan enjoyed playing his guitar for the church.

They were also heavily involved in their community, participating in multiple organizations and causes in support of the indigenous Mayan community of Guatemala. Originally from San Cristobal, near Guatemala City, they emigrated to the US in 1989, but maintained recognition of their heritage and culture while embracing a new life and starting a family in the United States.

Juan and Marta were inseparable; it was rare to see one without the other. Their love was a model for their sons and all of those around them, and it is all the more tragic that they perished so suddenly, together. Juan Carlos and Santos have been devastated by the loss of both of their parents on Christmas Eve.

Juan & Marta's vehicle was struck by a drunk driver who fled the scene of the accident at the 7100 block of S Gessner in Southwest Houston. The family hopes that this individual will be brought to justice.

Juan Carlos and Santos, and the entire extended Sapon family, express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support at this moment. As they plan out the next steps, they are also grateful for any financial support as they prepare to lay their parents to rest. Funds will be used to cover funeral expenses.

Juan y Marta Sapon, esposo y esposa de más de 38 años, murieron trágicamente en un accidente automovilístico el 24 de diciembre del 2021 cuando se dirigían a la misa de Nochebuena en la iglesia católica St. Francis en el suroeste de Houston.

A Marta y Juan les sobreviven su amada familia: sus hijos Santos (33) y Juan Carlos (35), así como su nuera Angie y sus dos nietos, Jake y Emma.

Juan y Marta eran miembros activos de su comunidad y miembros devotos de la iglesia católica, que asistían regularmente al servicio en las congregaciones católicas Holy Ghost, St. Cyril y St. Francis. Marta cantó como parte del coro y Don Juan disfrutó tocando su guitarra para la iglesia.

También estuvieron muy involucrados en su comunidad, participando en múltiples organizaciones y causas en apoyo de la comunidad indígena maya de Guatemala. Originarios de San Cristóbal, cerca de la ciudad de Guatemala, emigraron a los Estados Unidos en 1989, pero mantuvieron el reconocimiento de su herencia y cultura mientras abrazaban una nueva vida y formaban una familia en los Estados Unidos.

Juan y Marta eran inseparables; era raro ver uno sin el otro. Su amor fue un modelo para sus hijos y todos los que los rodeaban, y es aún más trágico que perecieran tan repentinamente, juntos. Juan Carlos y Santos han quedado devastados por la pérdida de sus padres en Nochebuena.

El vehículo de Juan y Marta fue atropellado por un conductor ebrio en la cuadra 7100 de S Gessner en el suroeste de Houston. La familia espera que este individuo sea llevado ante la justicia.

Juan Carlos y Santos, y toda la familia Sapon extendida, expresan su gratitud por la efusión de amor y apoyo en este momento. Mientras planean los próximos pasos, también están agradecidos por cualquier apoyo financiero mientras se preparan para dejar descansar a sus padres.
