Loyd was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to Louise and Lucian Troy. He was raised by Dean and Louise Jackson in California before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. A graduate of James Monroe High School in Los Angeles in 1973, Loyd later earned a degree in Computer Science from Tarleton State University in 2005. Loyd married Josephine Sunga on January 13, 2004, in Copperas Cove, Texas, and together they shared a life filled with love, family, and travel.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Whitnall, and his parents, Dean and Louise Jackson. Loyd is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine Troy; his four children, Victoria Troy, Brittany Troy (Andrew Fisher), Clarizze (Stephen) Lester, and ArJay (Doris) Alcoreza; and six cherished grandchildren, Edward, Tavia, and Michael Bush, and Luke, Hope, and Faith Alcoreza. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Troy, Lula Kane, and Lucian Troy.

He had a distinguished career, serving in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. Loyd traveled extensively during his military service, experiencing Korea, Sicily, Scotland, and Germany. He fought in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War and in Operation Just Cause in Panama, retiring as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1994. Loyd’s many military honors include the Meritorious Service Medal, Four Army Commendation Medals, Four Army Achievement Medals, Five Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Valorous Unit Award, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal and numerous others.

In retirement, Loyd worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he remained passionate about helping fellow veterans. He was actively involved in his community and dedicated to supporting veterans in finding employment and navigating life post-service. One of his dreams was to open a nonprofit organization to help veterans pursue their career and life aspirations.

Loyd was a devoted family man, finding joy in activities like fishing, gardening, and grilling in his backyard. He loved attending his grandchildren's events and watching the Dallas Cowboys with his wife. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a dedicated Christian, often attending Holy Family Catholic Church with his family. Even after his military service, Loyd never lost his love for travel, always exploring new places with his family. His favorite moments were those spent on vacations surrounded by loved ones.

Loyd had a special bond with his Dachshunds, especially Jake, who lived to be 17 years old. He also cherished his two other Dachshunds, Frankie and Ella.
