Honoring Velma Little Eagle: Family Support

Hello,

My name is Shaela, I created this Gofundme for my grandmother Velma Little eagle - Balderas. She recently passed away on September 16th, 2024. It is an extremely hard time for my family at this moment.

My grandma Velma was diagnosed with vascular dementia at the age of 71 and the doctors gave her a life expectancy for 5 years but she ended up surpassing that and living up until she was 79 years old. She also suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure, which caused her to lose her vision in her right eye and lose her hearing in her left ear. She constantly had trouble healing in her foot and ankle which ultimately caused her to lose 2 toes in her left foot. It led her to be unable to walk on her own after that.

Despite all of her health issues and her dementia, her will was still fighting to live even though her body was attacking its own self and shutting down. She was always so warm and loving, she touched so many peoples hearts. No matter where she was, she always made everyone feel welcomed and apart of her family. She always helped anyone in need, no matter what it was and she never expected anything back in return because she did it with love. Her heart was so big, all of her careers were surrounded in helping, teaching and advocating for others.

This is an extremely hard time for us, losing someone who was so strong, an inspiration and the backbone of our family. It’s heartbreaking to know that she will no longer be here with us physically but we know that she will be watching over us and protecting us. We will continue to live up to her legacy and keeping her memory alive.
