Honouring the Life of Wilson:Lost on his daughter's birthday

What started out as a beautiful birthday outing ended sadly for a young Liberian immigrant family relatively new to the province of British Columbia, Canada.

On Saturday, September 7th, Wilson Teah Dargbeh (34), decided to take the family to celebrate his daughter's 5th birthday at Cultus Lake in Chilliwack when tragedy struck unexpectedly.

Before the eyes of his entire family, Wilson entered the lake. Unknown to him that section of the lake was very deep [up to 52ft deep], he went down and never resurfaced. In a flash, he lost his life in front of his whole family; Lovetee, his unemployed house wife (32), son (6), daughter (5).

His family, friends and church prayed for a miracle but unfortunately, his body was recovered from the lake on the following morning, found on his knees with his hands on his chest.

In a painful turn of events, Wilson has left behind a heartbroken wife, two children, a devastated family across the seas and shattered community of friends. Wilson will neither be his family's pillar during life's trials and tribulations nor be able to celebrate future milestones and moments of triumph as his children grow up. Wilson had an unwavering determination to succeed, serving the Liberian community, BC and a faithful worker/volunteer in his church RCCG Grace Chapel, BC. He had a kind and gentle nature that will be cherished by those who knew him forever.

Wilson migrated to Canada ahead of his family to provide a better life for them. Upon graduating from his masters scholarship program at the University of British Columbia, he gained employment as a Policy Analyst.

He had great expectations for his immediate and extended family to ensure that they had a better life. In October 2023, his wife and children joined him in Canada to realize that dream on a Temporary Spousal Work Permit. Since her arrival Lovetee has been searching for jobs without success. She is still unemployed.

Wilson was the one who took care of everything for his nuclear family in Canada and also helped his extended family in Liberia occasionally. As the only breadwinner who is now out of the picture, his loved ones are left to navigate this unimaginable loss, they face the harrowing task of arranging for Wilson's final journey home and the wellbeing of the family going forward.

This GoFundMe campaign is organized by the Liberian community, BC, RCCG, Grace Chapel and United Brothers, communities to which Wilson and his family belong. All groups have been contributing their support in various ways with the aim to provide as much relief to Wilson's family as we can. This includes easing the burden of the following financial expenses for two children and job seeking widow, Lovetee, allowing them to mourn and honour his memory in the most dignified way:
