Hooks Heart

Hi, my name is Carole Steele and I am fundraising for my very dear friend of 40 years , Dorian Hooks. Dorian is the kinda person you only need to meet once and you will NEVER forget her wild and crazy self.

So please take a moment now to imagine how 40 years of wonderfully exciting, Holy Spirit inspired, and borderline illegal (at times) memories can enrich your life. Everyone should experience the honesty of having a friendship through multiple decades.

Unfortunately, this time Dorian, and the team of us that love her, are faced with a mountain of obstacles. Dorian has had years of health battles with Colitis/Crohns Disease. About 20 years ago, Dorian was in so much pain from bleeding ulcers in her large intestine. She and Gregg made the wise decision to remove the majority of her large intestine. At that time, the surgeons removed the diseased portion of Dorian's bowel that had been causing her tremendous pain from the ages of 16-28 years old.

Dorian's quality of life improved more than she and Gregg had seen it in years. She could spend more time out of bed and not losing blood anymore. She needed less blood transfusions and wasn't ending up with extended hospital stays. At the 2-year point, the doctors felt the remaining portion of the bowl should have been healed. They both decided she was happier and healthier so they would NOT try to do the reversal of her bowel.
Since then, Dorian has a stoma and happily wears an ileostomy bag. If you ask, she will even show it to you!
That's just Dorian and only a fraction of why we ALL LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!

Reeves, their brand new baby boy was 8 months old when this surgery occurred, because doctors had encouraged Dorian and Gregg to abort the fetus early on. The doctors were afraid that pregnancy would be too hard on Dorian. It was hard on Dorian. She spent weeks in the hospital. I think her hemoglobin was a 4 or something ridiculous like that. But Dorian felt that God had given her and Gregg a gift and it was not her decision to terminate. IT WAS HER DECISION TO FIGHT!!!
Dorian's second pregnancy she carried with the ileostomy without any issues what-so-ever. A health baby girl named Ayla was born in 2006 to round out the family of 4.

The 2 of us have many more beautiful stories that can be told on another day, but that word, FIGHT brings us here today. Dorian has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. It most likely started in her kidney and spread to her pancreas. The tumor on her kidney is the size of a tennis ball and the tumor on her pancreas is the size of a golf ball. This is going to be a battle.
And folks, we have a FIGHTER in the ring!!
And her name is D HOOKS!!!!

Due to pre-existing medical conditions, Dorian does not carry health insurance on herself but does on the rest of the family. That sounds like something a mother would do to me doesn't it :(
