Hoopla! Emporium Moving Fund

Hi, everyone, this is Lori and Scott Webster, owners of Hoopla! Emporium and Webster's Shipping. We've owned our store for sixteen years, seven of those years spent at Webster's of Altadena on Lake Ave., and nine on Fair Oaks Ave. We moved to Fair Oaks in early 2014, after Scott's dad, Bill Webster, sold the Webster's property. 3 years of depressed business due to the pandemic and eight months of an illegal marijuana dispensary two doors north have left us just about penniless.

We loved our little store on Fair Oaks. We were happy, our landlord was happy. When he installed central air conditioning several years ago, we offered to increase the rent payment, but he refused it. Unfortunately, Gilbert passed away a year and a half ago, his daughter took over, and things have changed.

We've found a suitable unit on Lake Ave., just below the Coffee Gallery. We're excited about the possibility of moving there, and there is a small parking lot in the back for our customers! *Update - we did not rent this unit. We were told that the owners removed the rental unit from the market, but that wasn't true. Someone moved into that unit in mid-September.

We love giving back to our local artistic community, being Altadena's only UPS provider, and serving as a commercial mail-receiving agency. The Webster family has retailed in Altadena for almost 100 years. If you'd like to see us back on Lake Ave., and if you'd like us to remain operating in Altadena, please help keep us here. *Update - it doesn't look like we will find a suitable place to do business here in Altadena before the end of October, when we have to vacate the store on Fair Oaks. Our landlord, who inherited the building when her father passed away a year ago, wants us out so they can live in the unit. Doesn't seem that the County can help us before then, either.
