Seeking financial support to cover a portion of the cost to expand the House in order to convert the existing Bike Room into a Live In Advisor Suite (this is a mandated postion by the University). Our current facilities are subpar making it difficult to recruit quality talent for this role moving forward. This change will necessitate an addition to the House along Ballantine Ave. where a new state of the art Bike Team training facility will be constructed. The addition will be in character with the House transforming the unsightly 50's addition with a design matching the front porch. The new Bike Center will put DU second to none on campus as far as facilities and support leading to our first ever Little 500 win in the coming few years.
Overall the project will entail comprehensive restoration of the 1st Floor Live In Advisor room with en suite facilities and small kitchenette. The new Bike Center will be Approx. 650 Square feet with a secured entrance from the Rec Room. This facility will have a stained concrete floor with DU Logo, with 1/3rd of the space dedicated for a bike workshop and repair area. Natural Light for winter rides on the rollers and multimedia will be installed. The Ballantine entrance will steps will be reconfigured with a sloped entry from the sidewalk leading towards a new courtyard in from of the Bike Center and below the House entrance. This courtyard will be the beginning of a new Delta Upsilon Indiana Walk of Honor, where EVERY graduating Brother will have a brick with their name and graduation year (just over 1500 bricks as of today). Our founding Wrangler Members will have a larger engraved brick closest to the Bike Center with a seat wall in brick around the area. (Note the House Rendering depicts the new addition, the Sidewalk Rendering depicts the plaza and reconfigured stairs....the project encompases both.)
NOTE...this Campaign supercedes the earlier Brick donation. That project was put on hold pending approval of the larger effort described here. The revised plan sets forth a larger vision and addresses key needs for the future. We also felt it essential to Honor all Brothers and not just those able to donate for bricks today. We will work with donors to the original campaign to ensure mutual satisfaction.
The first steps of the project are complete with Indiana University Board of Trustees approval slated for early December. Construction planned for Spring 2018 with anticipated completion Fall 2018.
