Developing Women's Gymnastics in Armenia

Hi everyone! My name is Houry Gebeshian and I have made history by becoming the FIRST female gymnast to represent the Republic of Armenia in the Olympic Games! I am a proud Armenian-American and lifelong gymnastics enthusiast and I’ve always had the dream of competing in the Olympics. In honor of my heritage, and at age 27, became a reality. I competed at the 2016 Rio summer's Olympic Games!
Not only am I an elite gymnast, but I also work as a physician assistant for the Cleveland Clinic. I work full-time in order to pay for the costs associated with making my dream a reality. Unfortunately, the Armenian Gymnastics Federation is terribly underfunded and cannot fully support a women’s team. However, I am hoping to change this.
I have recently returned from a trip to Armenia where my main goal was to determine the status of their women's gymnastics program. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are 4 gymnastics facilities for young girls in Armenia! (Yerevan, Gyumri, Etchmiadzin, and Vanadzor) However, I was shocked to find outdated and unsafe equipment, limited resources for grips, leotards, and clothing for the athletes, minimal space in the facilities to exercise, and an almost non-existent ability for these gymnasts to actually compete and show off the skills they train so hard to learn.
I am setting up this fundraiser to help create and fund the Armenian Women's Gymnastics program. By helping me achieve my goal, we can continue to develop this budding program, create healthy living habits through sport for young girls, and ensure our team’s presence as a legitimate contender in the international gymnastics scene.
My motto is that it is never too late to deliver a dream. I encourage any one that has ever had a dream to go for it! I would love for you all to join me on my journey! Click Here To View My Story or follow me on:
