Hope and Healing for the Holidays for Eli Hansen

Hope & Healing for the Holidays begins today at Spargo Salon & Spa. Our Hope + Healing event is a fundraiser to support those in need of a little extra support, love, and prayers during the holiday season.

This year we are supporting Eli Hansen and Family. Eli is a 9-year-old boy from Pewaukee, WI. A boy with endless courage, bravery, determination, and grit. On April 13th, 2016, Eli’s parents learned that he had Stage 4, High Risk Neuroblastoma – a rare form of cancer. Eli was just a 4-year-old boy that had become a big brother 16 days prior. Eli had high fevers and was in significant pain for at least a week before the has learned the news. The family was devastated. Only 3 years prior Eli’s mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer and she was barely out of treatment. They hadn’t even had time to heal from that yet.

They were given head spinning information on treatment options that Eli would be starting that next week. They learned the grim survival statistics. Stage 4 High Risk Neuoblastoma is a tricky one and an aggressive one. They tried not to pay attention to the statistics however, they knew they aren’t good.

This past spring on April 13th, 2021 marked 5 years later. They celebrated because Eli has been a cancer survivor for 5 years! More than 1/2 his life. It’s a big deal! In the cancer world, they talk about 5-year survival and they talk about 5-year event free survival. Event-free survival means no relapses or progression. Eli was not fortunate enough to fall into the event-free survival category. In fact, in these last 5-years the longest he had gone without active treatment or maintenance was just 5 months. In the past 5 years, this amazing boy had gone through more than we can even describe. He lives a life that is completely out of the norm. A life of events that we hope no one ever has to experience.

Just this last month of October, Eli fell ill again, and the family learned it was disease progression. This December, Eli will begin a trial on a very new treatment - he might be child #3. It’s very involved. It’s very interesting. It’s very innovative, based on personalized, precision medicine. There are a lot of moving parts to this trial so the family will learn as they go. This trial will last 12+ months and require travel. The doctor for this treatment is in Charlotte, NC at Levine Children’s Hospital which is where Eli will be Dec 5-17. Yes, Dec 17th, right before Christmas and during a time that is supposed to be magical and filled with joy and peace. Together want to help put a little magic back into the Hansen Family’s home.

Spargo Salon & Spa will be the primary location to take all donations for the Hansen Family. We will be accepting donations of gifts of all sizes, cash on site and through our Hope + Healing GoFundMe Page. All monetary donations will be given to the family to help with expenses. 100% of everything will be given to the Hansen family before Christmas. Every little bit counts. This will benefit the entire family as they are going through this together.
