Hope Begins in the Classroom

My name is Dami Dawodu and I am a Nigerian-American student at Wake Forest University. Graduating this Spring has made me reflect on how lucky I have been to be able to attend not only a great high school, but also an amazing higher education university.
During a recent visit to Nigeria, I had the chance to visit my dad’s elementary school in Ijebu-Ode, a small town with a big place in my heart. That visit opened my eyes and reminded me just how privileged I am. As I stood in one of the classrooms, I could see the blue sky through several holes in the roof. The floors were uneven and riddled with potholes. Unfortunately, the rest of the classrooms were in similar condition.
Standing there, I felt a deep sense of empathy for the students who began their education in such harsh conditions, and grateful my father was able to still thrive despite these conditions. No child should have to learn in an environment like that. That moment sparked something in me. I've decided to take action and help restore these classrooms into safe, inspiring spaces where learning can truly flourish.
I’m reaching out to my friends and family to join me in this mission. Together, we can raise $5,000 for Emmanuel Anglican Primary School. The funds will go toward renovating and modernizing the classrooms, giving these kids the learning environment they deserve.
Any contribution, big or small, will go a long way. Thank you for your kindness and support.❤️
