"Hope for a Medical Miracle"
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and caring individuals,
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. Today, Andi and I are reaching out to ask for your generous support on behalf of our best friend, Debbie Maas.
When her accident happened and Debbie began the fight for her life and prayed for a miracle that would save her arm, she never could’ve imagined that fight would last for 28 years and counting. That fight is not yet over and she’s still praying for a miracle. Debbie has exhausted all her options to save her arm in our local city. Her journey is now taking her to a major university hospital where the newest equipment and trained doctors may be able to offer her continued hope and solutions. But this journey comes with a cost. She has exhausted all her savings and because she is unable to work, she has no income to pay for travel and housing expenses while she is evaluated and God willing, undergoes treatment to save her arm. Her medical co-pays are mounting with no ability to pay them.
Debbie’s arm is not mobile; it is stationary and has been in a protective cast for 28 years. Throughout the past year alone, she has suffered through FOUR grueling and unsuccessful surgeries and months in rehab; her doctors have run out of options. Because she has an implant holding the arm together, the deterioration of muscle and tissue has caused the implant to protrude from her arm and is losing the ability to heal. They have begun serious discussions with her about amputation. Past experimental surgeries have left her shoulder partially deformed without the possible ability to attach a prosthetic. But she’s not ready to give up just yet. As a last resort, she is hopeful the new doctors may be willing to try a flap surgery where they will sew her arm to her stomach. She will be in a rehab facility while it heals and be closely monitored to determine its success. This is her final chance to save her arm. Without a promise of success, new doctors are at least willing to evaluate her and for Debbie and us that’s enough to keep praying for a miracle. It’s devastating that she may finally be at the point of saving her arm but no longer has the financial means to start the journey. At least, not without the help of generous strangers who may have similar stories and can understand in Debbie’s mind, she has no other choice but to keep hoping and fighting until she just can’t. So, on a wing and a prayer and the kindness of those who care without even knowing sweet Debbie, we ask you for help with what may be her final journey to save her arm.
