HOPE for Devlynn. Help her find a 2nd opinion for LIFE

Donation protected
Welcome all!

I’m Thomas (medic_tom on TikTok ), a friend/roommate/caregiver and most of all, a supporter for Devlynn Cyr in her current time of need.

I’m a firm believer in the phrase “family doesn’t end with blood…” and I’m there for my family; most of all, when they are in times of crisis.

Devlynn is a caring, bright, energetic soul whose warm light embraces all those that cross her path. She has been there for both the beginnings and the endings of so many lives as a paramedic and, tragically, as a Mother. In each she has stood tall and strong, caring for those around her above and beyond the call of duty, even when that means standing back so others can step forward.

Today, though, she needs your help. She needs your strength to help her stand tall and your hearts to be open to our plea.

This is a plea for a second chance on life after a devastating, life changing moment in a cold hospital room last September that could end her life in a few short months.

Today, we are looking for a 2nd opinion on LIFE and need your help to make it real.

Updated: July 16th 2024

Hey all!

This first round of the new chemo drug, Irinotecan, has taken a huge toll on her. Devlynn has been admitted to hospital for the last week for pain and symptom control with release home later this week.

With this in mind we have decided to adjust the scope and intention of the GoFundMe to more immediate needs like rent, medical bills (meds, ambulances, etc.), medical equipment (bed, cammode, recliner) and HomeCare if needed. Also help cover anything else not covered by insurance or that life brings.

The goal will be decreased to a more realistic number to reflect these changes and to help promote donations.

Thank to those who have donated and those that have shared Devlynn’s story and continue to follow along.

Let me tell you how this all came to be.

In Sepember 2023, Devlynn received the news upon waking from what was supposed to be a hour or two surgery. That, what had initially appeared to be a benign colon rupture, was actually much more sinister and life changing. Devlynn was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer at the age of 38 years young. It had spread from her sigmoid colon to her cervix, uterus and one of her ovaries by the time of the emergency surgery.

She was given a complete hysterectomy and had two sections of her colon removed in a multi hour surgery, along with multiple lymph nodes and a large cement like tumor. Her survival odds with 8 rounds of chemo, specifically oral Oxaliplatin, was 70% in January 2024 when she began her treatment. After completion however she was greeted with news that the cancer had now spread and the treatment had been unsuccessful. This was devastating news to her and all those around her; including her husband (separated), who continues to be a strong supporter and advocate for her.

In mid May 2024 Devlynn was told the cancer had spread far beyond her colon and into the lymphatic system, where it took root in her pelvis, abdomen, spine and esophagus. The Cross Cancer Institute doctors gave her the grave news she was now “Terminal” at 39 years young, with no chance of remission and that her chance of survival to her 40th birthday (6-7 mths away) was 1% with harsh IV chemo called Irinotecan.

On July 2nd 2024, Devlynn’s received her first treatment of Irinotecan via IV at the Cross Cancer Institute. Since then she has experienced severe side effects that have required ER visits. She has been experiencing severe dehydration caused by chemo induced vomiting and diarrhea despite taking heavy duty anti-nausea medications and Atropine plus pain medication. Her exhaustion knows no bounds, along with the pain and mental toll, and she debates her decision to continue to receive the treatment meant to extend her life at the cost of her having a life.

Without the treatment, according to the Cross Cancer Institue, her time her will be uncertain but pain free. Her last option they have stated is MAID, or at least that is the last option HERE.

Out there, is a second chance. A second opinion she so desperately needs to find. Here, she only has the Cross Cancer Institue, out there she has the world to find a second opinion and a second chance at LIFE.

The one and only goal of this GoFundMe is to raise the means (funds) to search, find and get to that second opinion. That SECOND CHANCE on LIFE. To bring HOPE for Devlynn and those like her.

Our initial goal is $50,000 CDN.

Why? Because the second opinion can not be found here but only out there, in the world, which I hate to say isn’t cheap to get around in, let alone live in. I do not know how much in reality these things cost, but I DO KNOW insurance will not cover this and that private clinics aren’t cheap, even for a second opinion.

What can YOU do? Simple, pass this on. Spread the word and help find a SECOND CHANCE on LIFE for Devlynn. That’s all.

THANK YOU!

What?! You think I was going to say give her money.
Ok, yes, but you don’t have too.

If you choose to DONATE though, thank you, and know that even the smallest gesture brings HOPE for Devlynn.

Again…THANK YOU.
