Hope for Mia Cara
Donation protected
A week ago, one of my friends from South Africa reached out to let me know that her friends were traveling to Philadelphia with the hopes that they would be able to save thier daughters life. While they are in need of prayer and friendship, they are in much greater need of money. The treatment thier daughter needs costs $1,000,000 US.
I created this site, because I am hoping that people will feel more comfortable donating to a site they are familiar with.
Mia Cara is currently at the Childrens Holpital of Philadelphia receiving treatment. She is in desperate need of our financial help. Her life depends on it.
I plan on bringing the money that we raise CHOP to give to her parents. If you would also like to drop off a card made by your children I will bring those as well.
Mia Cara Ferreira is a 6 year old little girl from South Africa, Mia has had leukemia since she was 3. She relapsed earlier this year after bravely fighting this battle for the past 2 years.
The only option available to her in South Africa is a bone marrow transplant with radiation, but there is currently no match for her in SA. Even if a match is found, her chance of survival is only between 40% – 50%, not taking into account the possible brain damage from the radiation as she still is so very young.
Her parents, José and Sumien Ferreira who are both attorneys, have new hope in radical treatment that is offerened at CHOP which is being described as “the biggest thing in cancer treatment for the last 30 years”.
It is called (CAR) T-cell therapy and in short t-cells are removed from the patient’s blood and genetically engineered to fight the cancer cells. These cells hunt the cancer cells until they have destroyed them all. The success rate varies between 86% – 96%. Mia Cara qualifies for this
Mia Cara is currently receiving CHEMO with the hope that her cancer cells will subsude so that she can begin receiving the CAR T-CELL therapy.
This is hte therapy that could save her life. She is due to be in Philaelphia for at least 2 more months.
The therapy will cost approx. $1,000,000 so please if you are able, any small donation will help. Tey need to raise $400,000 more. If you are unable to donate, please pray for this little girl and her family.
