Life is beautiful but it is not always like a bed of roses.
For 26 year old Rocel, life was full of promise. She came to Yuma two years ago to fulfill her dream of sharing her passion for learning as a middle school teacher at HPA, even when it meant leaving her loved ones behind in the Philippines. In Yuma, she bonded with her co-teachers and friends who have become her new family. She worked diligently, visited new places, made new friends, while dreaming of better life for her and her loved ones at home. She was off to new heights. The future looked bright.
As Forrest Gump says “Life is like a box of chocolates… you never know what you’re gonna get,” so came a surprising diagnosis - Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer, with spread to the pelvic bones. The runner now crushed with pain, cannot even walk without a cane. The fear of the unknown, of the disease is the only thing worse that the physical pain Rocel is feeling right now.
This week, Rocel starts chemotherapy, hoping for a cure. Medical expenses have already piled up and will continue to rise. She will be on sick leave for months while on treatment so the financial burden will be great.
Her relatives are all in the Philippines so we are her family here. She needs our help, financially through monetary support, emotionally by your words of encouragement, and spiritually through your prayers and positive thoughts. It takes a village to beat cancer and with you, by her side, the fight becomes more bearable.
