Help & Support River's Battle with Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kindhearted Strangers,

I am reaching out on behalf of my dear friend, River Germiquet, who is currently facing an incredibly challenging journey. River was recently diagnosed with stage II breast cancer after their very first mammogram and underwent a bilateral mastectomy on June 19th 2024. A copy of the pathology report has been posted in the updates. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and River is still fighting to survive every day.

On September 3rd at River's pre-chemo appointment for their second chemotherapy infusion, River found out that they now have stage 1A breast cancer which is a bit of emotional relief.

On August 14th, River did their first chemotherapy infusion with a mixture of feelings and hesitancy. Upon getting this infusion, River felt very sick and started to develop something called cancer-related fatigue. On Wednesday, September 4th, River did their second chemotherapy infusion.

River is undergoing an intense treatment plan including 12 weeks of chemotherapy and 15 radiation treatments. These treatments are crucial for their recovery but have left them unable to work. River has been off work since June and is expected to return only in February 2025 if everything goes according to plan. Currently, they are relying on limited employment insurance, with their ODSP on hold and barely providing any financial relief. This has left River and their children struggling to meet basic needs, including food and rent. On some days, they are forced to choose between these necessities, and the strain is affecting their recovery.

River was attending Centennial College to become an Addictions and Mental Health Worker but had to withdraw due to the overwhelming demands of their medical treatment. This has resulted in their OSAP grants for this semester being converted into a loan, adding to their financial burden.

In addition to these challenges, River's children, who are neurodivergent, require extra care and support. River's youngest son cannot work and is currently being waitlisted for the Developmental Services of Ontario. The eldest son has not yet finished high school and has been struggling to find any type of employment.

Recently, River received a $300 hydro bill in early August. In early September, River received another hydro bill of $315. Given these two bills, River is on a very tight budget. A copy of these Hydro bills and River's monthly expenses have been posted in the updates.

River also has two beloved cats who need fostering to ensure they are well cared for during this difficult period. They have reached out to the Humane Society but were informed that they are at capacity. River is currently struggling to provide for their cats and cannot afford their food.

River has always been a beacon of strength and kindness in our community, offering support and compassion to those around them. Now, they need our help. We have created this GoFundMe campaign to offer financial relief during this tough time. Your contributions will help cover essential expenses such as groceries, utilities, medical/treatment costs (not covered by OHIP - Ontario's health insurance), head covers, lotions, rent payments, emergencies, birthdays, and meal supplements. This will allow River to focus on their recovery and the well-being of their family.

Any contribution will not only help River but will make the hugest difference to their children. You are not only helping River - You are also helping River's children out and a chance of them living a life with dignity.

Any amount, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in River’s life. Your generosity will not only alleviate their financial burden but also provide emotional support during this challenging time. We believe in the power of community, and together, we can make a meaningful impact.

Thank you for taking the time to read River's story. Your support means the world to them and their family.

With heartfelt gratitude & appreciation,

Victoria Tenn
