Help me send cancer survivors to climb mountains!

Tax deductible
My name is Cory Huminsky and I am raising money for the Cancer Climber Association. Cancer Climber, seeks to inspire those touched by cancer by taking cancer survivors on climbs to mountains around the world carrying a HOPE flag with the names of people touched by cancer written upon it. Those of us who have fought cancer have climbed our own personal “Everests” by acquiring the strength and confidence needed to overcome our illness. Cancer Climber gives us survivors the opportunity to spread inspiration within the cancer community. In 2001 when I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer, a carcinoid lung tumor located in the main bronchial tube of my left lung. This type of cancer is more common in men than women, more common in the gastrointestinal tract than the respiratory system, and more common in the elderly than children. Lucky me.

I was lucky though, my cancer could be treated after a few surgeries including one that removed part of my left lung. I did not have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation like many other cancer patients do. So I really was lucky. Cancer has taught me a lot of things, but one thing is to not give up and to keep achieving whatever you dream. I went on to earn a full division one scholarship to play softball for the University of Pittsburgh where I still hold Pitt Softball program records to this day. Since then, I have always tried to inspire others especially the young women that I coach now in the game of softball to achieve their dreams no matter what they may be.

Last year, I was introduced to Sean Swarner, the founder of Cancer Climber. He is a two-time cancer survivor and the first cancer survivor to summit Mt. Everest. I worked with him last year to raise money for Cancer Climber. Enough money to fund my trip with the organization to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and some money to help send another cancer survivor up this year. On August 1st, 2021 I summited that mountain. This October 2022, I have been invited to trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp with Cancer Climber.

While we have made some great strides, Cancer Climber still has a lot to accomplish.

We need your support to continue sending more cancer survivors up mountains carrying the HOPE flag. We need to continue inspiring the cancer community.

Sending one climber on an adventure support grant costs about $6,000. My goal this year is to raise enough money to send two cancer survivors up Mt. Kilimanjaro or Mt. Everest Base Camp in 2023, meaning I need to raise about $12,000. Would you consider making a monetary donation to help us achieve our mission?

If you have any questions, I would be happy to provide you with more information about how you can help support our work at the Cancer Climber Association.

We greatly appreciate your donation, and it will be used to help send a future cancer survivor on a trip of a lifetime to inspire HOPE.

Please join us! With your donation, we’re one step closer to inspiring HOPE!

Thank you!
Cory
